As a performer
Marike started playing the saxophone age 11 and she hasn’t stopped doing it ever since. Her work as a saxophonist ranges from horn sections in pop bands, bigband (lead and 2nd alto), and more solistic work in jazz trio, quartet and quintet.
Marike performed her Shapes suite with Steve Newcomb (piano) and the Black Square Quartet at the Museum of Brisbane. This concert was beautifully recorded by Vanessa van Dalsen.
She is a bandleader and saxophonist in her large ensemble The Stereography Project, which she started in New York, during her studies at NYU. The band now has 2 releases on its name with a 3rd one in the making!
Marike has worked with (among many others): European Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Konrad Koselleck Big Band, Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra, New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, New Cool Collective Bigband, NYU jazz quintet among many others
